WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic – Ultimate Gold Making Guide
/There is a broad spectrum of players in WoW, and while some love hoarding gold, others want to reach the end game ASAP, no matter the cost. Finally, there is the casual crowd who prefers to enjoy the game at their own pace. Whatever your goals and ambitions are, getting a grasp on the gold economy is super important if you want to succeed as a WoW player in the long run.
If you want to make gold quickly in WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, this guide will show you the best way to do it. Here are some of the best methods for making gold quickly.
- GDKP Runs
- Questing
- Professions
And hopefully, by the end of this article, you’ll have a solid understanding of all the key gold-making processes and be well on your journey towards the new WotLK Classic experience.
A Beginner’s guide to GDKP runs
- In GDKP runs, all items dropped during the run are auctioned off in the raid chat. The highest bidders get the item, and the gold earned from the auction is added to ‘The Pot’.
- The Pot value keeps growing until the end of the raid when everything inside it is equally distributed among all members.
- A GDKP run is designed to assist both hardcore and novice runners. In this game, there are two types of players. The first group has maxed out their gear and is only looking for gold.
The second category of players lacks sufficient gear to participate in high-level content. They have a ton of gold to throw around but not enough to buy the overpriced stuff from auction houses.
- A typical GDKP raid party includes both over-geared and under-geared players. This way, low-item-level players can buy equipment at a reasonable price while the top-tier players stockpile gold for future content, and the cycle continues.
- For a GDKP run, you’ll need to know two things:
-Make sure you have a high-level alt character.
-Run with an experienced group that can clear the content in a reasonable time.
- If you are under-geared, remember to bid on a few items, even if they are not helpful. Otherwise, you might not be invited in future runs since you’re not contributing anything to ‘The Pot’.
- Set a bid limit if you are over-geared to avoid overspending. Determine the average payout of the GDKP run and always spend a few hundred golds less than that amount. So you are contributing to The Pot, and you can easily earn back the gold by selling off the bought items.
How to maximize the gold gained from questing?
- Always complete your daily quests because they grant some excellent crafting rewards and reputation.
- You get diminished rewards if you’re too powerful. The gold reward is reduced by 20% if you complete a level 74 quest with a level 80 character, but there is no penalty in the case of level 75 and above quests. It is better to save those quests until you’re maxed out so that you can clear them in the lowest possible time without sacrificing any of the rewards.
How to earn gold from Professions?
- There are three types of professions that can earn you a lot of gold.
- Consistent Income – These professions offer a pretty consistent gold income throughout the campaign. They are Alchemy, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting and Cooking. Items crafted from these professions are not overly expensive and are always in demand giving you a steady gold supply.
- Cyclical Income – When a new raid is added to the game, the cyclic professions produce the most gold. These raids introduce new patterns containing recipes for binder-equipped items considered best in slot, such as the Pattern: Belt of Arctic Life. They are initially in high demand, but as more players acquire those items, their value decreases. When it comes to gold making, the most important professions in Wotlk are Tailoring, Blacksmithing, and Leatherworking.
Additionally, as a Tailor, you can earn some extra gold by making bags that are almost always in demand. By adding gem sockets to bracers and belts, blacksmiths can make a few extra gold coins.
- Short-term Income – The Herbalism and Inscription professions make the most gold in a short period of time because there is a high demand for some of the items produced by these professions at the start of the WotLK expansion.
Inscription is the primary profession here, and it produces Glyphs and Darkmoon cards that can only be crafted with herbs. As a result, both professions are required at the start of the patch.
What should you do to get ready for the new patch?
- For Alchemy, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, and Cooking, you can get started right away and stockpile a bunch of stuff to sell later.
- Tailoring and Blacksmithing will have to wait since there is nothing to do until the new patch lands.
- However, in the case of Herbalism, you can start preparing from pre-patch. Get yourself a Druid and level it up to 70. Focus on mining and herbalism, max them out, and start collecting every herb you can find on the map.
You can sell the mining materials right away, but keep the herbs in your inventory. When the patch is released, players will be able to use Inscription, and they will begin scouring the world for herbs (which are required for Inscription) and other essential resources.
Because of the fierce competition and limited supply, most players will turn to the auction house to purchase herbs. This is the time to start unloading the items. You can do it all at once or gradually over a month, depending on prices, demand, and supply.
- Finally, once the patch is live, you should focus on crafting the Darkmoon Card: Greatness, which is the most popular of all the cards and can easily sell for 50,000 gold in a higher pop server at the start of the expansion.
To create a Darkmoon Card: Greatness, you’ll have to assemble a Nobles Deck (one of the four Darkmoon Decks). Each deck contains eight cards, and crafting those cards requires the Inscription ability Darkmoon Card of the North.
The ability creates a random card every time, so expect to craft at least 200 cards (can be more or less depending on the RNG) before you have a complete set. The reward is well worth the risk, so decide whether or not you want to sell the herbs or try your luck at crafting the most powerful Darkmoon card in the game.
- Once the initial hype dies down, you can focus on the more consistent gold-making professions like Alchemy, Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, and Cooking.
