Freaked out and amazed by the chaotic fun? Welcome to Earth Defense Force 6! Huge bugs, explosive mayhem, and corny one-liners—it’s all here… Whether you’re a battle-hardened veteran or just starting out, discover essential tips & tricks to become an alien-killing pro. Let’s get started!
Getting Started
Pick Your Class: EDF 6 gives you four different classes each with its own special skills and ways to play. Here’s a quick overview to help you figure out which one fits you best:
- Ranger: This type acts as your versatile fighter showing skill with rifles, shotguns, rocket launchers, and grenades. Rangers and Air Raiders can operate all vehicles.
- Wing Diver: This agile jetpack unit moves across the battlefield but has less protection against attacks.
- Air Raider: This tactical support unit can request airstrikes and vehicle deliveries.
- Fencer: This robust unit moves but has heavy armor and carries powerful weapons.
I find the Wing Diver the most enjoyable. Moving around with a jetpack is fun even though I need to be extra cautious to avoid getting hit.
Basic Gameplay Tips
Put Deployables on Vehicles: You can attach most deployable items to vehicles and drive around with them. This lets you make moving fortresses covered in mines, shield barriers, or auto-turrets. Use your imagination and go wild! I once put turrets all over a tank and felt unstoppable.
Block Alien Claws: Some aliens fire extendable claws at you. You can shoot these claws mid-air to block them and dodge damage. Stay on target!
Fast Motorcycle Turns: To make a quick 180 degree turn on a motorcycle, release the throttle, steer right then let go and hit the throttle again… It needs some practice but it’s a useful move when you need to get away fast.
Take Off Alien Arms: You can shoot off some aliens’ arms stopping them from shooting at you. Aim for their limbs to make fights a bit easier. This trick helped me out more times than I can remember!
Get NPCs to Join You: You can get NPCs with red arrows above them to join you by walking close to them. They’ll come with you into fights and even copy your emotes. Using health crates will heal your nearby recruits too. Having a group of NPCs can change how a battle goes.
Jump Higher as Fencer: The Fencer class can go higher in the air by using the boost jump without moving in any direction. This helps you get to higher spots or stay away from enemy attacks.
Manage Your Inventory: Bad guys drop all kinds of weapons, armor upgrades, and healing stuff. Keep tabs on what you’re carrying and put on the best gear for your class. Extra items of the same type boost your equipment on their own making them better. It’s awesome to stumble upon a rare weapon and watch my gear get tougher.
Embrace the Campiness: EDF 6 is famous for its corny lines and wild situations. Have a blast with the humor. The game’s goofy vibe adds to what makes it special and helps you enjoy it more.
Use Vehicles: Vehicles can change the course of battle, but watch out for their controls as they can be a bit clumsy. Try out different vehicles to find the ones you like best. One of my top moments was taking over a huge mech and just destroying everything I could see.
Surviving the Campaign
Take Your Time: The campaign in EDF 6 is the longest in the series, with over 130 missions. Don’t hurry through it. Take breaks if you find yourself doing missions again because there are no checkpoints in the middle of missions.
Get a Grip on the Challenge: EDF 6 has five levels of difficulty: Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardest, and Inferno. Tougher settings give better loot but make the game way harder. Start with Normal to learn the ropes and change it if you need to. I messed up by jumping into Hard right off the bat and got wrecked.
You can knock down every building in EDF 6. This gives you an edge – you can crush enemies under falling structures or clear your view. It’s just so fun to topple a skyscraper onto a bunch of giant ants.
Most missions require you to kill all aliens. The easy-to-understand goals let you concentrate on fighting. Keep in mind that some missions might seem similar, but the different enemies and weapons make it fun.
Healing and Reviving: In single-player, you can get your health back using healing items. In multiplayer, you can use your health to bring teammates back to life. Be smart with what you have and watch your team’s health. I’ve saved missions in co-op by bringing people back just in time.
