In this quick guide we are bringing you nineteen solid tips to help your detective career soar in Shadows of Doubt. Let’s get started!
- City directory access: Don’t waste time going back to your apartment to look up names and addresses. Utilize city directories in various locations such as businesses, restaurants, and red phone booths to find information on different individuals and businesses.
- Fingerprint scanner versatility: Don’t limit your fingerprint scanner to just scanning fingerprints. Use it to scan footprints to access and pin different shoe sizes, which can be compared to your suspect’s shoes in their house or on their person.
- Stay vigilant around security cameras: While trespassing or engaging in illegal activities, pay attention to security cameras. If you hear beeping, quickly get back into cover or stop your activity. Follow the red electrical lines from cameras to power boxes and shut them down temporarily, but remember they don’t stay off forever.
- Utilize security footage: Investigate the security rooms in buildings to access security footage. If you find the right camera, you may catch your suspect on tape, narrowing down the list of possible suspects. Print their picture and pin it to your board for further investigation.
- One serial killer at a time: If you’re struggling to solve a case, wait for another murder case. This will provide a new crime scene to investigate and potentially new leads. Check newspapers for updates on murders to uncover clues you may have missed.
- Upgrade with sync disks: Collect sync disks found throughout the city to gain character upgrades and bonus feats. Take these disks to the nearest clinic and step inside the machine to apply the upgrades. Some upgrades may have negative trade-offs, so choose wisely.
- Earn extra cash through valuables: During investigations, you might come across expensive valuables. Take these items to a pawn shop to earn extra cash. This money can be used to purchase various items at City Hall or to bribe individuals for information or access to certain areas.
- City database access: Use the computer in the side room of City Hall to access the city database, which contains information on every person in the city. If needed, you can role-play as a real detective and read through each citizen’s file to gain comprehensive information.
- Efficiently complete profiles: Visit a suspect’s workplace and look for a drawer or cabinet with employee files. This will provide most of the information needed for their profile. Access the computer they’re using for additional information such as their address and passcode.
- Obtain guest passes: To investigate a workplace during the day without raising suspicion, speak to the receptionist and ask for a guest pass. This will grant you access to areas that may contain useful information.
- Knocking on doors: To access a locked room while you have a pass, or to sidetrack an NPC inside, knock on the door. This will make the NPC stop what they’re doing and open the door for you, granting you access to restricted rooms.
- Keep an eye out for pass codes: Be on the lookout for pass codes during your investigations. Once you find one, don’t hesitate to use it wherever applicable. Filling out a pass code once will automatically fill it any time after.
- Using others’ computers: Disregard personal space and sit on an NPC’s chair while they’re using a computer. This allows you to access their profile for bonus information compared to the employee records, specifically their address and passcode.
- Phone number side jobs: For side jobs that provide a phone number, call the number from your apartment, then check the call logs in your building and the building where the call went to. This will help narrow down the location of the target apartment.
- Alternative to pawn shops: Instead of selling pilfered goods at pawn shops, you can drop them on the floor of your apartment and sell them in the Decor menu. This provides another way to earn extra cash during your investigation.
- Take advantage of unlocked doors: When knocking on a residence door, wait for the resident to unlock it. At the right moment, run up and bash the door open, knocking the person unconscious and allowing you to slip in and investigate at your leisure.
- Employ side jobs and downtime: While waiting for new clues or murders to occur, take on side jobs to earn extra cash and keep yourself occupied. This can also provide new leads or opportunities to collect valuable information.
- Monitor newspapers for new information: Regularly check newspapers for updates on cases or to discover new information that you may have missed during your investigation.
- Befriend and question NPCs: Interact with NPCs in the city to gather information about suspects or other persons of interest. Building relationships with them may lead to valuable insights or access to restricted areas.
