Mortal Online 2 – Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Magic & Spell Casting
Magic is the bread and butter of any MMORPG, having found its way into movies, books, and particularly games. Entire worlds are created based on magical systems, and a well-thought-out one is not only fun to interact with but grants a sense of joy and wonder few can comprehend.
Some writers even believe they have perfected the magic formula, one of them being Brandon Sanderson with his three laws of magic: Simplicity, Balance, and Depth. A well-constructed magic system can either make or break the world it’s intended for, and the developers at Star Vault AB have once again pulled through.
Mortal Online 2 has a reputation for in-depth game mechanics, clearly demonstrated in taming, crafting, and alchemy skills. Magic is no exception, and in this beginners guide, you’ll learn the absolute basics to becoming a powerful mage, both feared and respected in-game. You can also check out our other Mortal Online 2 guides here.
Skills and items you need to get started
- The first set of skills you’re going to need are Vitalism, Mana Regeneration (25-50% more passive mana regeneration), and Meditation (0-100% mana regeneration when resting).
- Second set of skills: Mental Training (0-50% mana cost discount), Mental Focus (10-60% chance of not getting interrupted during channeling, halved when mounted), Concentration and Mental Offense (0-200% more effective spell).
- Third set of skills (optional, synergies with Meditation): Resting, Active Regeneration (self-healing through Meditation), Meditation (0-100% mana regeneration when resting).
- Fourth set (optional): Controlled Riding (advanced riding skills) and Mounted Magery (Increases effectiveness with magic while riding).
- Only the Ecumenical magic school spells are available in-game, and the rest are still in development and will be introduced shortly in a future patch.
- Names of the other schools are Animism, Demonology, Dragon Magic, Elementalism, Harmonism, Illusionism, Mentalism, Necromancy, Spiritism, Staff Magic, and Symbolism.
- The spells you cast may fail if you have not leveled up the Magic School. For example, the skill range for Fulmination is between 37 and 62. The lower your level, the higher is your chance of failing the spell.
Mortal Online 2: Ultimate Guide to Character Builds & Attribute Effects
Magic 101: Basics, hotkeys, stats, and reagents
- Drag spells from the Spellbook to the hot bars on the top right for quick casting.
- Press Q to quickly cast the last used spell.
- Press E to quickly cast the last used spell on ‘yourself.’ You can hurt yourself if you accidentally cast a damaging attack. Best used for healing yourself.
- Aim at the exact target before casting a spell; otherwise, you’ll miss them entirely.
- Intelligence affects your character’s magic damage, maximum mana, and mana regeneration. Psyche influences mana regeneration, maximum mana, and magic resistance.
- Age determines the maximum stats for your character, with a higher age resulting in more Intelligence, which translates to significant buffs to mana regeneration, capacity, and damage right from the start.
- Alvarins are best suited to be a mage. They have a unique age-balancing clade gift.
- As of now, 45 is the age meta for most would-be powerful mages.
- Maximum weight also grants more stats (+20 PSY and +20 INT).
- Although the regional vendor/material supplier carries most reagents needed for basic spells, these will be removed in a later patch. You will no longer be able to purchase the reagents, instead having to extract them manually from in-game resources.
Mortal Online 2 Reagent Guide
- Spellcasting consists of two phases: the first phase charges the spell, and the second phase casts it. Charging a spell does not consume any reagents. However, they are consumed once you cast the spell, even if it fails due to inadequate skill range.
- Here are the reagents you can’t get from the vendor: Cuprum, Coal, Pyrite, and Water.
- Extraction is a lengthy process that requires a lot of trial and error to get right. The following chart lists the parent resources and what you can extract from them. Note: Click on any picture to enlarge.
