Mortal Online 2: Alchemy Guide
According to Merriam Webster, Alchemy is a combination of medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy. Its purpose was to achieve the transmutation of base metals into gold, discover a universal cure for diseases, and find a way of indefinitely prolonging life.
Over time, the definition has undergone several mutations, gathering both good and bad reputations until it was adopted into the gaming world, where it unfurled a world of possibilities. Although the essence of Alchemy remains the same, it has acquired pseudo-magical properties that allow players to create powerful potions granting special abilities for a limited time.
The art of Alchemy is now embedded in almost every MMORPG in some way or another, and Mortal Online 2 is no exception. The Alchemy mechanics in the game is one of the most detailed depictions of the art so far, similar to their taming and crafting mechanics, if not more complicated. In this guide, you’ll learn the absolute basics of Alchemy to begin your apprenticeship in the beautiful craft. You can also check out our other Mortal Online 2 guides here.
Skills and items you need to get started
- Visit the Librarian and buy Alchemy, Botany (all skills associated with it), and Potion Making. You can also buy Taste Identification if you have any money left, but it’s not necessary at this stage.
- Visit the Extraction Librarian and buy the following books: Herbalism, Herbologium Expertise, Botany Appliances, and Press Operation.
- These are all the skills you’ll need to get started with Basic Alchemy. Requirements for Advanced Potion Making are different.
- Read all the books to gain lore in respective skills.
- Search the local library for all Botanic lores you’ll need for Alchemy.
- Visit the local Vial Vendor for vials.
The glassblowing skill is still not available in Mortal Online 2. However, considering that the developers carried over several features from the previous game, we expect they might do the same for glassblowing. For now, the only way to get vials is from a vendor.
- High INT characters are best for Alchemy. The best race for Alchemy is Alvarin since they receive a flat 5% extraction bonus and 10% increased potion volume while crafting.
Basic alchemy: How to start making potions?
- To make potions, approach the Alchemy table and put all your ingredients and vials on it to start crafting.
Note: You need to have learned all the necessary skills before this step.
- If you have suitable base materials, be careful with the catalysts and multipliers. Based on compatibility, you may get 5-10% more effect from your potions.
For instance, 11 Sew Dew Leaves = 1PU = Â 2.4 Healing, but 11 Sew Dew Leaves + 1 Jadeite = 1PU = 2.64 Healing.
- Visit the Extraction Herbologium to extract herbs, fruits, and other resources you need to make potions.
- Each potion can contain three different types of ingredients: Base + Two multipliers (Fillers, Adders, Volumisers).
- Base adds volume to a potion. For example, Sew Dew Leaves is the base for health potions. You can craft them with only Sew Dew Leaves as base and no additives.
- Additives do not add volume to a potion and only amplify the effects of a base. Jadeite is an additive, and it cannot be used as a base.
Understanding vials and Potion Units (PU)
- Potion Units determine how much drinkable content is inside a potion.
- Medium vials weigh 0.15kg, and Minor vials weigh 0.1kg.
- Each PU weighs 0.01kg, and you can drink 10PU at a time (one sip), which means you can consume 0.1kg of potion in a vial in one sip.
- A minor vial that weighs 0.2kg actually has 0.1kg worth of potion inside of it. Since 1PU = 0.01kg, and one Sip = 10PU, the potion consumed in one sip is equal to 0.01kg x 10 = 0.1kg.
Therefore, a minor vial weighing 0.2kg contains one full sip’s worth of potion.
- A potion with 5 Direct Healing (DH) heals that amount multiplied by the remaining PU. If a flask has 10PU, then the total heal amount is 10 x 4.5 = 45HP.
- You need 100-101 units of ingredients to make a 10PU
- Medium Vials can hold up to 40PU, bringing their total weight to 0.55kg. Small vials can hold up to 15PU, making their maximum weight 0.25kg.
How to experiment with potions?
- Alchemists keep everything a secret since it takes a significant time to figure out the correct measurements for each ingredient in a potion. Be prepared to fail and lose a lot of resources if you embark on the path of becoming an Alchemist.
- The best way to experiment is to create a potion using only the base. Record your findings.
- Next, add the base and one other resource/additive (Blood Ore, Jadeite, Muse Fruit, etc.) Compare the findings. You can determine whether the added resource was a filler or a multiplier based on the outcome.
- Adding too much filler or multiplier will dilute the potion.
- Maintain a spreadsheet of all your findings if you’re truly determined to become an exemplary Alchemist.
