How to Change Gravity in Space Engineers

1 186

A quick guide to changing planet and moon gravity.

1. Make a backup of your save file (Save’sName). Place it somewhere you’ll remember. Maybe even make a dedicated Backup folder. The backup is made because you could end up corrupting your save. Stay safe.

– C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\(might be a string of numbers)\(Save’sName)

2. Open File – “SANDBOX_0_0_0_.sbs” in notepad.

– C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\(might be a string of numbers)\(Save’sName)\SANDBOX_0_0_0_.sbs

3. Look for (CTRL+F) “SurfaceGravity” (case-sensitive) and edit the value between what you want. There’s 6-7 lines of <SurfaceGravity>1</SurfaceGravity>

– To double gravity on earthlike: FROM <SurfaceGravity>1</SurfaceGravity> TO <SurfaceGravity>2</SurfaceGravity>

– To double gravity on moonlike: FROM <SurfaceGravity>0.25</SurfaceGravity> TO <SurfaceGravity>0.50</SurfaceGravity>

4. Save File (CTRL+S)

5. Delete File – “SANDBOX_0_0_0_.sbsB5”

– C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\(might be a string of numbers)\(Save’sName)\SANDBOX_0_0_0_.sbsB5

6. Open Space Engineers and load save

– Expect and click “OK” on the pop-up stating, “The file format of this world is outdated, which may cause longer initial loading times. The world will be automatically updated to the new format after the first load.”

7. Enjoy the gravity.
