Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Beginner’s Guide: 5 Tips & Tricks to Get Started

Tiny Tina takes center stage in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a tabletop RPG-style spinoff of the incredibly popular and successful Borderlands franchise. In it, you play a game within a game as you go through a “Bunkers & Badasses” (not dissimilar to Dungeons & Dragons) campaign created by the titular teenager.

As you progress through the fantasy world she created, Tiny Tina will speak events into existence and put you face to face with some of the Borderlands series’ most powerful foes. It’s going to take a lot of magic, a bunch of guns, and truckloads full of bullets to make it out of this campaign alive.

Thankfully, you won’t have to do it alone. As has become a staple in Borderlands, you can play through the game in co-op mode with a few friends to even out the odds. Character Creation

The first step before you begin your Bunkers & Badasses journey is to create your character. The Wonderlands character creator is incredibly in-depth and I don’t just mean because of the face sliders. You’ll have six classes to choose from, three melee and three ranged ones.

You won’t have to be too careful about your class selection, because you’ll be able to add a secondary class early in the game, and after that, you’ll be able to switch out that secondary class for another one. It would be a good idea to look at your options and see which two might fight your playstyle so you can plan your synergies early.

Overworld

A new addition to Wonderlands that helps nail the tabletop feel is the new overworld map. You’ll traverse it as a miniature version of your created character with an enlarged head, and it takes the place of the massive open world of previous Borderlands games.

Scattered throughout the overworld is a series of shrines that contain pieces of a relic. Collecting all of these pieces will grant you a powerful permanent buff that will aid your playthrough. Not all shrines have a piece in them, but Tina will let you know when you arrive at one that has one so you don’t waste your time. It’s always worth clearing a shrine with a piece in it.

Loot n’ Shoot

If you’ve played a previous Borderland game, you know the series is all about looting chests and shooting bad guys. Wonderlands is no different, and you will be showered with lootables and enemies from the very beginning of the game.

Because of this, you shouldn’t be spending money at the weapons vendors till much later in the game, if at all. You will always get a powerful new weapon from mini-boss enemies and large groups, so spending your hard-looted cash on a gun that you could get for free is silly. Save that money for the really good, expensive guns that show up later in the game.

Leveling Up

One of your primary goals in Wonderlands should be to level up your character. You’ll get lots of experience points from main story quests, but if you don’t want to blast through the game too quickly, you can complete the many side quests available,

Cleaning outside quests as they become available to you will give you tons of experience that can be used to level up your character quickly and make them more powerful for the story missions to come. If you want to repeat boss battles as few times as possible, make sure you are appropriately leveled for certain encounters.

Secret Collectibles

Each area in Wonderlands has a lucky die for you to find. This glowing object will drop a bunch of great loot when you interact with it, and it will also increase your chances of finding better loot as you make your way through that area.

Each zone has a certain number of lucky dice, and many of them are well-hidden or visible but in places that seem out of reach. You’ll have to scan through each area carefully and think creatively if you want to find them all. The possible gear you can get from finding all of them is more than worth the hassle of hunting them down. Just keep an eye out for the golden glow!
