Though the back heel pass looks cool and can catch the defender off-guard, it’s a high-risk high reward move. If it connects with the right player, then you’re good, but if you miss, then there is a high risk that the ball might get stolen by the opponent. Here are a few tricks that you can use to streamline the process and practice making the shots more consistently.
HOW TO DO A BACK HEEL PASS IN FIFA 23
- To make the back heel pass, press L2 + X on the PS4 & PS5 or LT + A on the Xbox One & Series X|S.
- Use the Left Stick to position the pass if there aren’t any teammates nearby to receive the ball.
- It’s not possible to hit the ball mid-spin. If the ball approaching you has a spin to it, then you can either stop it and make the pass, or use its momentum to nudge the ball in the right direction.
- You’ll be passing the ball backwards, so you need to be aware of your surroundings before making the shot. Don’t pass willy-nilly. Make sure there is an endgame to the pass, otherwise your opponent might take advantage.
- The back heel is perfect for catching defenders off guard. Avoid spamming the move; the defender might preemptively block you. Throw a few other skills into the mix to keep them guessing.
- During practice sessions, you’ll end up passing the ball to an empty spot on the pitch or even to the opponent. However, it’s important that you keep practicing as if you were doing it during an actual game.
WHERE TO USE THE BACK HEEL PASS IN FIFA 23
- Use the back heel as close to the box as possible. That way, even if you make a mistake, there is no immediate danger.
- You can approach from the midfield or from the wings, it doesn’t matter. Just have a player in position before passing the ball.
WHEN TO USE THE BACK HEEL PASS IN FIFA 23
- Always use it when the defender is charging at you full throttle. Don’t drop your speed. Let them get as close to you as possible and then pass the ball right before they can intercept.
- The seemingly quick nature of the pass will catch them off guard and not give them enough time to rotate over to the new ball handler.
You might argue that there are much safer passing options such as the fake shot, or the finesse shot. However, it’s more fun and rewarding to score off such a crazy pass rather than the tried and tested strategies. The reward is worth the risk, but only if you’ve mastered the move.
