Diving into CK3, you’re gonna come across a whole bunch of acronyms and initialisms. Let’s break ’em down:
- “CK3” or “CKIII” – That’s short for Crusader Kings III, the game we’re all here for.
- “PDS” – That stands for Paradox Development Studio, the genius minds behind CKIII.
- “PI” – Paradox Interactive, the folks who publish CKIII and make sure we get to play it.
- “GG” – Gamersgate, one of the places where you can grab a copy of CK3.
- “WAD” – Works/working as designed. When something’s acting how it’s supposed to, even if it seems like a glitch at first.
- “WIP” – Work in progress. This is for stuff that’s still getting cooked up and isn’t quite ready yet.
- “OPM” – One-province minor. It’s like a tiny independent nation with just one province or county to its name.
- “HRE” – Holy Roman Empire, one of the big players in the game.
- “BE” – Byzantine Empire, another major empire in CK3.
- “ERE” – Eastern Roman Empire. Just another name for the Byzantine Empire.
- “WC” – World conquest. The ultimate goal of grabbing every piece of land out there.
- “GH” – The Golden Horde, a force to be reckoned with.
- “AAR” – After-action report. It’s like a storytelling session, recapping your game as if you were the character.
- “LP” – Let’s Play. It’s like AAR but in video form, showing the game in action.
- “CA” – Crown authority. The rules set by the ruler in the game.
- “CB” – ‘Casus belli’ which translates to a reason to fight. You need this in-game to start a war.
- “OP” – Overpowered. When something in the game is just too strong.
- “DD” – Development diary. The devs sharing sneak peeks of upcoming game parts or DLC.
- “DoW” – Declaration of war. You can also say “to DOW”, meaning you’re ready to start a war.
- “CTD” – Crash to desktop. A not-so-fun bug that kicks you out of the game.
- “OOS” – Out of sync. In multiplayer, when two computers aren’t seeing eye to eye on the game state.
- “MR” – Merchant Republic, a unique government type in the game.
- “HoF” – Head of Faith. The big boss of a faith, if you’ve got the Temporal or Spiritual Head of Faith Doctrine in play.
- “MaA” – Men-at-Arms. These are your elite fighters, with special roles and they need upkeep.
- “DLC” – Downloadable content. Extra game goodies you can get.
