NBA 2K22: How to Shoot Free Throws

In NBA 2K22, free throws are ultimately determined by your player’s stats; thus, getting your shot inputs right is crucial. Some players excel at free throws compared to others, regardless of their overall shooting abilities. The particular stat to pay attention to is ‘free throw percentage’.

The NBA 2K shot meter comes into play while shooting free throws. To maximize your free throws, it’s important to understand how the Shot meter works. Whether you’re using pro-stick or shot timing, mastering your shooting technique is key.

As such, there are two methods to make a free throw in NBA 2K22.

The first method is the traditional way of shooting free throws:

Hold down the Square button on the PS4 & PS5 controller or the X button on the Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S controller. As a result, the shot meter appears above your player’s head. Release the button when the moving tick mark aligns with or is close to the small black line in the shaded area.

The second method involves using the Right Stick to shoot free throws:

Press and hold down the Right Stick. The shot meter will appear above your player’s head. If Free Throw Aiming is enabled, you can gently rotate the Right Stick to either side (left or right). This helps to aim the ball correctly for the shot. Then, just like with the first method, release the Right Stick when the moving tick mark aligns with or is near the small black line in the shaded area.
