LEGO 2K Drive Beginner’s Guide – Tips and Tricks for Getting Started

2 3 2

LEGO 2K Drive is a thrilling open-world exploration racing game set in the vibrant world of Bricklandia. Your journey begins as a rookie racer, and you must work your way up to become a famous champion. Along the way, you’ll compete against a series of charismatic rivals, each adding a unique challenge and experience to the game.

Key Game Mechanics

Healing Your Vehicle

One crucial mechanic in the game is the ability to heal your vehicle by smashing into objects and creating bricks around you. As your vehicle bumps into things or gets hit by others, bricks fall away, indicating damage. When you bump into other brick-made items, you can “heal” your vehicle by rebuilding it with the fallen bricks.

Using Power-ups

Like any other kart racing game, power-ups are a vital element in LEGO 2K Drive. However, while actively using a power-up, you cannot pick up another. If you want to pick up a new power-up, you must deactivate your current one by clicking the power-up button.

Mastering Drifting

Drifting is a tricky skill to master. For those who struggle, there is a feature in the settings of the game called “tap drift.” By simply tapping the L2 button or the drift button, you activate drifting. To deactivate the drift, just tap the button again. This makes completing drift missions and challenges easier.

Managing the Terrain

Most items in LEGO 2K Drive are destructible and can be used to heal your vehicle. However, be wary of weeds or shrubs. These indestructible plants can halt your momentum and potentially cause you to lose the race. So, jump over them or boost to avoid getting stuck.

Tweak the Audio Settings

Before starting, check your audio settings. The voice volume defaults to 85 percent, which can be a bit low, especially during cutscenes. To ensure a better audio experience, you might want to adjust the voice volume up to 90 or 100 percent.

Understand Your Vehicle

Vehicle Statistics

There are five main statistics in LEGO 2K Drive to pay attention to: top speed, acceleration, handling, health, and weight. Different vehicles, whether light, medium, or heavy, have different advantages and disadvantages. Some vehicles have unique abilities, particularly those in the rivals’ collection, which you can acquire by defeating different rivals across the map.

Boosting

Boosting is a key mechanic in LEGO 2K Drive. A handy tip is to double tap the boost button once you hit the B rank. This burns the entire boost meter, propelling you forward rapidly and allowing you to focus on steering rather than managing your boost.

Camera Angles

Although LEGO 2K Drive doesn’t offer an extensive range of camera angles, by pressing the R1 button, you can get a closer, more zoomed-in angle of your vehicle, giving a more dynamic feel to the game.

Transformation

In LEGO 2K Drive, your vehicle can transform to adapt to different terrains. By default, the game does these transformations automatically, but if you prefer manual control, you can disable the “Automatic Transformation” feature in the gameplay options. This allows you to control transformations, even taking off-road vehicles onto roads and vice versa.

Leveling Up

Earning Experience Points (XP)

Earning XP may be a bit challenging as numerous tasks in the game award minimal XP. To reach specific levels required to participate in certain races or events, explore different parts of the map to discover hidden XP bonuses.

Brick Hunting

Brick hunting is a fun way to increase your level. These bricks are hidden throughout the map, and collecting them helps you gain more experience points and complete certain tasks or missions.

Challenges and Missions

LEGO 2K Drive offers a variety of challenges and missions that allow you to level up quickly. Missions are tied to specific vehicle classes, so it’s beneficial to own a variety of vehicles. The game rewards those who explore and experiment with different vehicles and game mechanics.

Unlocking and Upgrading Vehicles

As you progress in the game, you’ll unlock new vehicles, either by purchasing them from the Car Shop or by defeating rivals. Some vehicle upgrades can be quite expensive, so save your bricks and choose your upgrades wisely. Remember, not all upgrades are necessary for every vehicle.

Discover the Map

The game has several points of interest around the map, each with different races and challenges. Explore these areas to find shortcuts, jumps, and hidden paths.

Partake in Events

Participating in various events scattered around Bricklandia not only gives you a break from the usual racing but also helps in gaining experience points and bricks.
