The Precinct: Authorized Force and Resistance Explained

The Precinct (Police Department)

Dealing with crimes in The Precinct means knowing how much force to use in which situations. Each case has its set level of Authorized Force, which lets you know how much maximum force you may apply in a situation-from no force in compliant suspects to lethal force in life-threatening moments. Resistance levels must be managed, and you can drop the resistance through voice commands, by presenting your weapon, or even calling for backup. To keep things within Police Conduct, follow the guidelines.

Authorized Force

Each crime you’re tasked with handling will be allocated a specific level of Authorized Force. This indicates the maximum level of force, if any, permitted to restore order. Exceeding these levels may be considered a breach of Police Conduct.

The Authorized Force escalates or de-escalates in response to the SUSPECT’s threat at any given moment.

No Force

The SUSPECT is compliant and offers no Resistance.

Restraining Force

The SUSPECT is displaying moderate Resistance. You may use appropriate physicality to Restrain them.

Non-lethal Force

The SUSPECT is displaying signs of moderate violence. You may use your Baton or Stun gun to achieve compliance.

Lethal Force

The SUSPECT is extremely hostile, and there is a perceived threat to human life (CIVILIANS or other POLICE OFFICERS). You may use firearms to Neutralize the SUSPECT.

NOTE: DRIVING ANY VEHICLE TO INTENTIONALLY STRIKE A SUSPECT’S BODY IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES AND WILL BE DEEMED A VIOLATION OF POLICE CONDUCT.

Resistance

A SUSPECT who offers no Resistance is considered Compliant.

The Resistance level (indicated by a blue meter above the SUSPECT) can be reduced by one of the following methods:

  • Voice Order: A firm and direct Order in the direction of the SUSPECT. Can also be issued via Helicopter and Patrol Vehicle Loudhailer.

  • Present Firearm: Unholstering your weapon and pointing it at a SUSPECT.

  • Discharge Firearm: Firing your weapon at a SUSPECT.

  • Call for Support: Summoning other units to assist in handling a CRIME.

  • Pursuit Ram: In the event of a dangerous pursuit, you are permitted to ram the SUSPECT’s vehicle to reduce Resistance.

  • Aerial Spotlight: Pointing the Helicopter Spotlight at SUSPECTS.
