Player Positions have received a rework in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team. Until now, the only way you could change player positions was either through position modifiers or by getting a version of the player with the changed position. However, FIFA 23 has decided to revolutionize the system. So, let’s take a look at what the game has in store.
HOW TO CHANGE PLAYER POSITION IN FIFA 23
- In FIFA 23, every player has one Preferred/Primary Position and up to three Alternate Positions. Depending on the situation, you can freely switch between them.
- You can see all the Alternative Positions in the Player Bio, or as a Player View on all Player Items.
- Position Modifiers have been simplified into a single Consumable. Using it, you can pick a Primary Position for your player. The last position they had will be shifted to one of the Alternate Position slots.
- You can also use the consumable to switch between a Primary and Alternate Position.
- Note that players in FIFA 23 only earn Chemistry while playing in their Preferred/Primary Positions.
- Also, the Right Forwards (RF) and Left Forwards (LF) positions have been removed from the game.
HOW TO APPLY POSITION CARDS TO A PLAYER
- Visit your Squad in FUT, choose your player and press Square on PS4 & PS5 or X on Xbox One & Series X|S to bring up the Player Actions screen.
- Now, choose a position modifier card from the Positioning tab and apply it.
- Choose the position you want and you’re good to go.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A PLAYER IS OUT OF POSITION?
- An out of position player will have zero chemistry and will only have their Item Attributes to support them.
- A yellow exclamation point appears at the bottom of a player’s card if you place them in the wrong position. It indicates that they cannot play in that particular position.
HOW TO GET POSITION MODIFIER CARDS
- Position modifier cards (consumables) can be gained as rewards. You can also find them in the FIFA 23 packs. Finally, you can also buy them directly from the Transfer Market in the Consumables section.
WHAT ARE AUTOMATIC ALTERNATIVE POSITIONS?
- There is a new feature called the Automatic Alternative Positions.
- Players in specific positions will be automatically assigned Alternative positions, but this will only apply to the original Preferred position for the player.Â
- So, switching from RB to LB won’t introduce LWB as a new Alternative Position, since the player’s initial Preferred position wasn’t LB.
