BlazBlue Entropy Effect - Jin Kisaragi Build Guide

Jin Kisaragi, like most characters in Blazblue, is also broken, but in a different way. While the others that I’ve reviewed mainly focus on obscene amounts of damage, Jin is a defense based character. His kit consists of freezing enemies and slowly chipping away at their health… I am personally not a fan of the playstyle, but his arsenal makes him one of the most powerful characters in the game, thereby earning him a spot in my review list. Let’s begin!!

Jin Kisaragi Skills and Abilities Breakdown

Jin is the most versatile character in the game and most of his builds need to be carefully balanced. This guide tries to explain his abilities rather than pointing out which of them are more powerful than the other.

Skill Breakdown

Passive Potentials Jump (5/10)

Jin comes with a decent amount of mobility. Moreover, thanks to his freezing powers, I don’t need to jump around a lot. However, the later stages do become a bit challenging and I’ve been hit by a fair number of enemy attacks. So unless I have a decent stack of potentials that enable me to freeze enemies consistently, and in a wide area, I usually pick the recovery part of this potential. The rest of it isn’t that useful.

Dash (8/10)

It’s a powerful ability indeed but it consumes MP, which is justified. This is not my go-to potential when it comes to damage, but it’s a solid choice, especially when I am out of rerolls and there isn’t anything better on offer. The dash ability is also a great opener as it freezes the enemy and sets me up for more combos.

Touga Hyoujin (9/10)

Standard damaging skill that can also be used when airborne. Although it uses MP, I’ve found myself using this a lot. There are characters whose base attacks and abilities outshine their skill. Jin is a combo-based character and most of his abilities shine brightest when you’re weaving them together and his skill plays a crucial part in them. I usually avoid the hidden effects and mainly focus on the first two upgrades.

Fubuki/Sekkajin (6.5/10)

I have never been able to unlock all of the abilities under this potential in a single run. During testing, I’ve found that the grounded version of the attacks aren’t all that powerful, not unless I unlock more of the hidden effects. In one run, I was lucky enough to create a build based on this potential alone and it was quite impressive. But I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for beginners. There are more powerful standalone abilities that kill enemies more efficiently.

Hyouten Danka (7/10)

Although this is a powerful single-target ability, it’s way more complicated than the rest of his kit. I usually avoid this potential because in most cases I can’t execute it consistently. Once I managed to pick the first hidden effect which skipped the charge time altogether and I had a blast. However, it’s risky as in most cases I don’t have all the skills to make this work.

Crystal Moonstorm EX (10/10)

Possibly my favorite potential in Jin’s kit. The charge time is low so I can execute this without getting hit. Moreover, it comes with a powerful cc effect by freezing enemies for quite some time. No matter what potential I choose, I always make sure to have at least the first upgrade of this potential.

Hiyoku Getsumei (6/10)

Decent ability but hard to position optimally. I generally avoid this and invest my points into the skill which is much more reliable and offers better MP utilization.

Kokuujin: Yukikaze (9/10)

Although it’s a powerful move, it utilizes MP, and it’s not efficient to upgrade two potentials that utilize MP. If I’ve already upgraded the skill, I avoid investing any points in this potential. However, if I get this early enough in the run, I often pick this over the skill.

Rengoku Hyouya (6/10)

I’ve never actually needed this ability because the rest of Jin’s kit has a ton of freezing abilities. It’s better to upgrade them instead of investing points in an ability that forces me to stand still and also requires SP to execute.

Universal Enhancement I (6/10)

This universal enhancement is focused more on offense and defense. I often pick this if I have a stance-based build that lacks freezing abilities. However, executing the combos takes practice and I still have a long way to go.

Universal Enhancement II (9/10)

The second version focuses on freezing and slowing enemies and is much easier to execute than the UE I. I often pick this one for consistency, but I also lack enough practice with Jin. Maybe as I get better I may prefer the UE I over UE II or maybe some weird combination of both. Only time will tell.
