In the realm of vampire video games, there is a significant lack of options compared to the abundance of zombie-themed choices, particularly when considering high-quality titles. Enter Redfall, a fresh take on the vampire genre. This open-world action-adventure game, masterfully crafted by the renowned Arkane Studios, immerses you in an island teeming with ruthless vampires. Playing as one of four unique heroes, you’ll use their special abilities, weapons, and teamwork to liberate the island.

Character Selection and Abilities

The four main characters each possess their own set of unique abilities and weapons, which can shape your playstyle and overall experience. To make an informed decision, familiarize yourself with each character and their unique abilities:

As a cryptozoologist and inventor, Devinder Crousley wields Arc Javelin, Translocate, and Black Light abilities, making him adept at crowd control and utilizing an array of gadgets and tools in battle. Devinder can hurl an electrified spear that releases an AOE chain lightning attack, shocking and briefly stunning enemies caught in its radius. Upgrades can increase the damage output, lengthen the stun duration, affect more enemies, or extend the spear’s throwable range.

Layla Ellison, a biomedical engineering student, has telekinetic abilities, including Lift, Umbrella, and Gravitic Anomaly. Her strength lies in controlling the battlefield and manipulating objects or enemies. Layla’s ultimate ability allows her to summon her formidable vampire ally, Jason, who wreaks havoc on enemies with powerful melee strikes. He swiftly leaps from one enemy to another, taking down multiple targets. Upgrades can boost Jason’s damage output, prolong his duration, or add extra effects to his attacks.

With supernatural abilities like Shadow Step, Phantom Grasp, and Vampiric Gaze, sharpshooter Jacob Boyer is a versatile fighter skilled in both close-quarters combat and long-range engagements. He can become invisible to enemies, allowing him to scout, reposition, or escape from dangerous situations. Upgrades may increase the cloak’s duration, movement speed bonus, or allow Jacob to fire a limited number of shots without breaking the cloak.

Remy De La Rosa, a combat engineer with a robotic companion, boasts skills such as Mobilize, Siren, and C4 Charge. As a well-rounded character, Remy excels at supporting herself and her teammates, distracting foes, and inflicting significant damage. Remy’s robot companion, Bribon, can emit a loud siren that distracts and lures enemies away from the team. Upgrades may increase the siren’s range, duration, or effectiveness at attracting enemies.

Vampire Weaknesses

Vampires have certain vulnerabilities that you can exploit to boost your chances of success. Based on available intel, some notable weaknesses and corresponding strategies are:

UV Light: Vampires are especially susceptible to UV light, which can turn them to stone. Characters like Devinder have UV light-based abilities, such as his Black Light ultimate ability. Using UV light attacks or weapons can immobilize vampires, making them easy targets for you and your squad.

Crowd Control: Vampires can be overwhelming in large groups. Utilize crowd control abilities like Devinder’s Arc Javelin to incapacitate clusters of vampires, allowing you to take them out one by one. Upgrading these abilities can boost their effectiveness, making them even more potent against vampire foes.

Staggering and Interruptions: Some vampire enemies may have powerful abilities or attacks that can be interrupted or staggered. Use abilities that cause stagger or interrupt enemy actions, like Devinder’s Translocate or Layla’s Umbrella, to disrupt their attacks and gain a tactical edge.

Traversal and Mobility: Vampires can be quick and agile, making them tricky to hit or dodge. Use your character’s traversal and mobility abilities to evade damage and reposition yourself for a more advantageous attack. For example, Devinder’s Translocate ability enables him to teleport, helping him dodge vampire attacks and quickly move to a better vantage point.

Environmental Traps and Hazards: Sometimes, you can use the environment against vampires. Identify hazards or traps that can damage or immobilize vampires, such as explosive barrels, electrical equipment, or environmental chokepoints.

Combat and Stealth

Redfall offers both action-packed combat and stealth options. Assess each situation and decide whether to engage in a direct confrontation or use stealth to avoid or outsmart enemies. Utilize your character’s abilities and movement skills, like Translocate and Shadow Step, to gain an advantage in battle or evade detection.

Teamwork and Cooperation

In co-op mode, teamwork is vital. Coordinate with your teammates to effectively combine your characters’ abilities, and communicate to strategize and adapt to changing circumstances. Keep in mind that in co-op mode, the host progresses in the story, while other players do not, so it’s essential to plan accordingly.

Redfall’s open-world setting encourages exploration and interacting with the environment. Spend time searching for hidden secrets, resources, and side missions that can provide valuable rewards and experience points. Keep in mind that your character’s perspective and input will affect certain events throughout the game, adding depth and replayability.

Managing Resources & Crafting

Scour the island for materials to craft essential items, such as ammo, health packs, and upgrades. Manage your resources carefully and prioritize crafting items that will benefit your character and playstyle.
