Smalland Survival Guide: The Essential Resources and Where to Find Them

32 5

The core of any survival base-building game revolves around hoarding resources. The exhilarating sense of achievement you experience when collecting items scattered across the world is both satisfying and deeply rewarding. However, securing these resources can be quite challenging, especially if you’re short on time or just unlucky. To make your life significantly more manageable, we’ve put together a guide to help you seize those essential materials in Smalland without breaking a sweat. So, let’s jump right in, folks!

Flint

Flint Locations: Primarily found in Beaches, Greylands, and Swamps.

Source: Scattered across the map.

As a vital early-game resource, flint is crucial for crafting weapons and tools, making it the most basic resource you’ll need. You can find it in any beach biomes; just approach the dark-colored rocks and wait for the ‘Harvest’ prompt to appear. Remember that you’ll need a Tier-2 pickaxe to gather flint, so be sure to upgrade it before setting out into the wilderness.

Bark

Bark Locations: Beaches and Swamps.

Source: Scattered across the map.

Bark is typically found in Swamp and Beach biomes. However, it’s best to steer clear of the Swamp in the early game, as it’s quite perilous. Stick to the Beach initially and venture into the Swamp only when you have the proper equipment.

Petals & Nectar

Petals & Nectar Locations: Oak Forest, Ruins, and Greylands (Petals only).

Sources: Cyclamen, Poppy, and Mauve Plants (Petals only).

You can find Nectar and Petals throughout the forest. Harvest these resources from various plants, but the most valuable one is the Poppy, which is easily recognizable by its pink petals. When you cut it down, you’ll obtain 1x seed, 1x petal, and 1x nectar. Here’s a list of food items you can cook with nectar:

  • Pixie Omelette

  • Fay Chowder

  • Forest Delight

  • Caramelized Ant Head

  • Caramelized Bee Head

  • Caramelized Spider Head

Garlic Leaf

Garlic Leaf Location: Oak Forest.

Source: Hedge Garlic Plants.

In the Oak Forest, you’ll encounter small plants with white flowers called Hedge Garlic. Harvesting them yields Garlic leaf, an essential ingredient in many food items. Here’s a list of dishes you can cook with garlic leaf:

  • Pixie Omelette

  • Fay Chowder

  • Garlic Pudding

Fur

Fur Locations: Found throughout the map.

Sources: Bee Drones, Bees, Moths, Hornets, Jumping Spiders, Nocturnal Spiders, Spider Matriarchs, Wasp Queens, and Wolf Spiders.

Fur can be obtained from insects and is primarily used for crafting offensive gear, such as arrows, and defensive gear, such as armor. Here’s a list of items you can create with insect fur:

  • Primal Armor

  • Ironwing Armor

  • Chitin Armor

  • Flint Arrow

  • Fire Arrow

  • Poison Arrow

  • Poisoned Dart

Honey Crumble

Honey Crumble Location: Oak Forest.

Source: Bee Drones.

Bee Drones occasionally drop Honey Crumbles when defeated. However, this method is rather inefficient; you’ll gather more by farming honey clusters found beneath flowers and beehives. It’s also an essential ingredient for crafting food and healing items.

  • Healing Patch

  • Forest Delight

  • Blackberry Jam

  • Strawberry Jam

  • Honey Biscuits

  • Caramelized Ant Head

  • Caramelized Bee Head

  • Caramelized Spider Head

Chitin and Heavy Chitin

Locations: Found throughout the world.

Sources (Chitin): Black Widow, Grasshopper, Lubber, Green Beetle, Sawyer Beetle, Nocturnal Grasshopper, Spider Matriarch, Wasp Queen, Wasp.

Sources (Heavy Chitin): Cockroach, Stag Beetle, Hornet.

Chitin is an indispensable resource for crafting and upgrading various tools and equipment throughout the game. Heavy Chitin is a more robust variant dropped by late-game creatures and is used to create even sturdier gear for exploring the more treacherous parts of the world.

Metal

Location: Top-left section of the map.

Source: Scrap Metal clusters.

You can gather Metal from scrap metal clusters, an important late-game resource needed for crafting and upgrading equipment. Be sure to have a pickaxe before venturing out, as it’s required for gathering this resource.

Silk

Location: Swamps.

Sources: Black Widows, Spider Cocoons, Nocturnal Spiders, and Spider Matriarchs.

Silk is an essential in-game resource required for crafting numerous items. Here’s the complete list:

  • Chitin Spear

  • Chitin Axe

  • Chitin Bow

  • Recurve Bow

  • Silkweave Armor set

Note: You’ll need flint shears to farm silk.

Herptile Leather and Bones

Location: Beach Biomes.

Sources: Geckos, Lizards, and Toads.

Herptile leather is a fundamental resource needed for most armor sets, particularly in the early and mid-game stages. The same applies to bones, which are used to craft a variety of items, such as the Blowgun.

Clay

Location: Ruins.

Sources: Scattered all over the ground and walls.

Clay is a unique resource used to craft several items, such as Clay Mortar and Clay Bandages. Keep in mind that you’ll need a pickaxe to gather this resource.
