How to Defend in FIFA 22: How to Improve Your Game
In FIFA, defending has always been difficult. You can attempt to steal the ball from opposition attackers with standing and sliding challenges, push strikers away from the goal, or press two players at once. Still, it’s easier said than done, much as when a commentator says a defender. Should “show him down the line.” Especially when Ronaldo is involved, you will find some tips & tricks to improve your defensive game in this guide.
- It is critical to be patient. Even if your opponent’s attackers outnumber your defenders on the way to your goal, you do not need to be stressed or confused. The only thing that would help at that point is your ability to manage the situation. Give your opponent a difficult time, confuse them, and limit their options. Remember that time is of the essence, and you must buy it to thwart their attacks. Focus on man-to-man battles and short tackles to ball-carrying players, as well as blocking off ball-carrying players.
- Use the Team Press strategy to get the ball back higher up the field. To activate it, press down twice on the D-pad. It’s ideally used when you need to score fast, but it may also be used early in the game to pressure your opponent, score, and seal a victory. Keep in mind that EA has introduced a timeframe to the Team Press, as well as a cool-down period. As the press starts to build, we suggest that your two center defenders remain back while attacking so that you are better prepared to deal with a counterattack.
- If you have a clear angle to attack the ball, avoid pressing the Circle (PlayStation) and B (Xbox) tackle buttons for standing tackles. Rather, jockey and approach a player to tackle. Slide tackling, on the other hand, is highly effective and a lot of fun. In FIFA 22, red cards are uncommon, so don’t hesitate to let an opponent know you’re there!
- Bring back midfielders to assist. If you’re in transition, use R3/RSB to flick to a defensive midfielder on your team. Sprint back with him to beef up your defense, and you might find that you could use some more assistance back there when it comes to making a tackle.
- Understanding defensive controls are critical in FIFA 22. The following list is a complete list of all defensive controls available in FIFA 22.
