How to Apply Pressure in FIFA 22

Pressure is possibly the most critical aspect of defending in FIFA 22. It’s all about putting pressure on your opponent and putting them in a position where they’ll make a mistake and turn the ball over.

The contain button is the first and most important way to apply pressure. This forces your player to lock on to the ball and match their speed as they move around the field. It’s a simple way to close off the surrounding space and limit their options while drawing ever-so-slightly closer to them without overcommitting.

You can attempt a calculated tackle with greater precision and less risk when you’re close enough to them. The running jockey works in the same way, but it gives you even more control. If a player manages to slip through into open space, you should quickly switch to the nearest player and apply pressure by containing them.

To make things a little easier, you can also use the teammate contain button to call an AI player to assist you. This can be especially effective because it applies twice as much pressure, but it will create space elsewhere on the pitch, so don’t rely on it all the time.

Applying high pressure, you will get a special FIFA 22 teammate cursor. You can apply high pressure by holding down the R1, RB button of your controller; when you press and hold that button, a certain teammate of yours will start attacking the opposing player on the ball and vest, you can apply high pressure with your selected player and the extra teammate, you can take control of the second teammate with a special cursor by pressing LB / L1 of your controller and take the boat by yourself.
