Disney Speedstorm: How to Unlock and Upgrade Racers

Disney Speedstorm presents an endearing lineup of characters originating from both Disney and Pixar movies. Spanning ageless classics like The Jungle Book and contemporary hits such as Pirates of the Caribbean, the game covers a diverse range of time periods. This thoughtfully chosen character assortment suggests that the game is designed not only for kids but also appeals to young adults and older players. While Elsa and Moana are conspicuously missing, there’s always a possibility they’ll join the roster in the future.

In order to unlock & upgrade racers in Disney Speedstorm, you’ll need two in-game assets: shards and upgrade components. Shards are unique to each character, while upgrade materials come in various rarities and types and are used to level up your racer. To unlock a racer, you’ll need to collect 10 shards for that particular character, making them available across all gameplay modes.

Upgrade materials are available in different rarities (common or rare) and categories (universal or collection-specific). Universal materials, such as racing pennants and wrenches, can be applied to racers from any collection. On the other hand, collection-specific materials, like the Hercules action figure or the Mickey and Friends alarm clock, are limited to racers within their respective collections. Racers in Disney Speedstorm are classified into various rarities: common, rare, and epic. Some racer shards are easier to acquire than others, based on their rarity.

Upgrading Racers: Stars and Levels

Once you’ve unlocked a racer, collect more shards to increase their stars and levels. To achieve higher star levels, you’ll need additional shards (e.g., 20 for star 2, 35 for star 3, 50 for star 4, and 85 for star 5). Higher star levels unlock exclusive abilities, improve existing ones, and raise the number of crew slots and level limits for your racer.

Finding Specific Shards and Upgrade Materials

To find specific shards or upgrade materials, go to the Collections menu, select the character’s collection, and click “Get Shards” or “Get Upgrade Materials.” This will display all the ways to obtain those materials in the game.

Racer’s Unique Skills

Each racer possesses a unique special skill that can be activated via skill boxes during races. For instance, Mike’s “Hold the Door” skill can teleport him forward or send opponents backward. Baloo’s “Bare Necessities” skill summons rotten fruit to stun opponents or ripe fruit to grant Nitro fuel.

Crew Members and Racer Level Limits

As you increase a racer’s stars, their crew slots expand accordingly. One & two stars provide one crew member; three stars allow for two crew members; four stars grant three crew members and five stars supply four crew members. Your racer’s level cap rises with each star (e.g. level 15 for one star, level 25 for two stars, level 35 for three stars etc.).

Obtaining Shards and Upgrade Materials

There are several ways to gather shards and upgrade materials in Disney Speedstorm:

Daily Special Offers and Shop: Once unlocked, daily special offers present a rotating assortment of purchasable items, including character shards and upgrade materials.

Universal and Season Boxes: These boxes contain randomized items, including racer shards. Universal boxes have shards for various racers, while Season boxes include shards for that season’s racers.

Golden Pass and Seasonal Battle Pass: The Golden Pass provides shards for select seasonal racers and an array of upgrade materials as you progress through its tiers.

Game Modes: Starter Circuit, Season Tour, and Ranked Multiplayer: These modes award shards and upgrade materials at different milestones. In Ranked Multiplayer, you receive shards for the racer you’re using when reaching specific ranks, along with a mix of generic and collection-specific upgrade materials.

Limited Events: Limited events may also offer shards and upgrade materials as rewards. Be sure to check these events regularly for new opportunities to acquire valuable resources.

Tips and Tricks

Focus on your favorite racers first to maximize their potential. Be mindful of your in-game currency spending. Save up for essential upgrades, shards, and racers that will significantly improve your gameplay, rather than impulsively spending on less important items.
