Resources are valuable and have many uses:

Construction materials, such as Steel and Coils, are used to repair and upgrade ships. They are typically salvaged from defeated enemies or bought at stations.

Munitions, such as cannon ammo, are used by certain weapons. They are typically produced in factories or bought from stations.

Raw elements, such as Iron and Copper, are used in factories to produce construction materials and munitions. They are typically mined from asteroids.

Resources are stored in Storage Bays. Build more Storage Bays to increase how many resources your ship can hold.

Resources can be bought and sold at stations by hailing the station and selecting the Trade tab. (More valuable resources may often be out-of-stock.)
