Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Tips & Tricks for New Players

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: New GOTY? Not on your life, but I can tell you this game is freakin’ brilliant – a huge, gorgeous medieval world where you play Henry, just a regular bloke who gets mixed up in some seriously epic stuff. But, it can also be a tad overwhelming when you start. So here’s help:

Archery: Earning the Robin Hood Treatment

Want Groschen? Attend an archery tournament.

Archery ranges are in towns and offer tournaments with decent prize money. Winning also boosts your Marksmanship: a profession that’s otherwise a pain to improve.

Sleepy Time: Where to Rest Your Medieval Head

Sleeping is healthy and gives you energy. Taverns & inns have paid beds, but who wants to spend coin on that when you can nap for free?

Roadside camps on your map (once you’ve discovered them) and vanquished bandit camps are your personal nap areas. Bonus; many fast travel nodes have convenient camps nearby.

Fast Travel? Yes, Please!

The Bohemia world is enormous! Fast travel is a blessing… see those blue icons on your map?? Those are your fast travel locations. But there’s a catch: you need to actually visit somewhere to unlock its fast travel icon. So explore!!

Lockpicking: Because Who Needs Keys??

Lockpicking opens up a world of loot & secret areas… Thankfully it’s less clunky than in the first game. Head to Miller Peshek at the Ledetchko mill for a free tutorial and lockpicks. Practice on the “-very easy-” chests nearby to skill up fast.

Reading is Fundamental (Even When Waiting)

Downtime needn’t be dead time. Browsing books can increase skill points like Drinking, Scholarship & Warfare; which are traditionally difficult to max out. Carry a couple of books to use while waiting.

Sharpen Your Sword (Without Losing a Groschen!)

Combat dulls your blades, so use them less. Avoid wasting money at a blacksmith.

Take advantage of the grindstones available near most blacksmiths for free. Sharpening is slow at first (blame your poor Craftsmanship), but gets better.

Food, Glorious Food (and Not-So-Glorious Food Poisoning)

Eating spoiled food will ruin your day (and your stats). Always check food freshness before chowing down.

Dried foods (like meat) last way longer and should be your priority. Drying racks are your best friend: place food on them -> and it’ll automatically go into your inventory once dried.

Good Gear Matters…

The best gear is essential… harder-hitting weapons and better armor keep you alive.

Don’t grab the first thing you see! Compare stats. Different armor has varying Charisma, Visibility, and Conspicuousness.

Make Your Own Weapons!

You can craft weapons! They usually start at Quality 3. Level up your Craftsmanship to 16 to make even more powerful Quality 4 weapons. Sadly, no armor crafting.

Thin the Herd

Surrounded? Don’t charge in like a madman. Use your bow for long-distance kills first, then creep closer. Stealth dagger assassinations are extremely useful (and fun). Sneak up and stab enemies quietly.

Save Early, Save Often (Especially Before You Mess Up)

Save Often, or You’ll Be Sorry! This game does not mess around. No autosave in extended travel or combat. Savior Schnapps is for manual saving. Use it before anything potentially disastrous: bandit camps, tough combat, you name it.
