Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Beginner’s Guide: Essential Tips & Tricks
So, you decided to take Westeros in your stride in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad? On your journey to avoid cranky Starks, getting mixed up in the political sewer of King’s Landing, and freezing your bits off by the Wall? Kudos to you!!
But before you get shanked in an alleyway or use up inventory space quicker than Tyrion uses up wine (not possible, I know, but close!), here’s some hard-learned advice from someone who’s already face-planted a few times in early game mud. Pay attention or you’ll be regretting having stayed south of the Neck!!
Grip the Guidebook: C’mon don’t thrash about…
Open up that Guidebook & grip it like the Queen’s proclamation. See through your Dailies, beat down on those Weeklies, and stick to the Missions. It’s your main artery of resources, shiny Artifact shards, and those Golden Dragons you spend to gamble… I mean, call.
Events Aren’t Festivals, They’re Loot Pinatas:
Watch that events tab; “Great Journey,” “Seventh Gift” (hi free horse!!); “Forging Steel” ; these essentially fling resources your way… Don’t pass up freebies; the Lannisters would not.
Mount a Mount, Save Your Boots:
Westeros is huge. Walking everywhere is terrible. Get a horse (or that crazy kennel-dog animal thing I acquired) in a flash from the story, quests, whatever.
SORT OUT YOUR INVENTORY FIRST!
I can say it again tho. You’re given this purse to manage a hoard of dragons. You start with woeful 25 slots. Scream you will at the screen. Make your way to Shop -> Convenience Pack and spend your very hard earned Gold on Traveler Small Inventory for 240 Gold the moment you can. That’s an investment that will be paying off… trust me!. Saves you from actually losing your mind.
Your Estate: Build It Like Your Life Depends On It (It Kinda Does):
Once the story drops you into your little patch of Westeros (talk to Mary), get building! The Stable, Workshop, Tailor, Alchemy spot. This is where it all happens for crafting and getting stronger. Don’t let it collect dust!.
Crafting: Your Best Bet Against Being Poor and Naked:
Especially if you’re trying to avoid dropping serious coin, crafting is your lifeline. Gather Ore, hunt down those Armor Scraps, hoard Copper. Pay attention to Set Bonuses (I’m rocking the Savant set ; makes my skills hit harder). Don’t just slap on whatever drops; craft smart!
Skill Points: Prioritize Target Before You Pull Trigger:
Leveling up skills at random isn’t worth doing. Work out what your bread-and-butter abilities are (my Shoulder Charge is more active than my bath tub) and squeeze those first. And for goodness sake also level up your normal attack combos – free damage is free damage!!
Achievements: Like Little Gold Stars That Reward:
They just pop up everywhere… Click ’em, win ’em. Easy Copper and Dragon Coins for doing things you’re already doing anyway. No brains required.
Region Lock is a thing:
Want to group up? Ensure damn well your buddies are within the same region server (NA cannot play with EU/Asia, etc.). Don’t recruit the Unsullied only to find they’re on the incorrect continent.
The Shop: Enter At Your Own Risk (and Wallet’s Danger):
OK let’s be honest. They want your dragons (the gold kind). That 100 bucks for Ultimate Pack? Ah, look, I did get it myself – fault of the job – but unless you absolutely want that specific cosmetic mount or have money burning a hole in your pocket, it’s expensive. Extremely expensive.
Battle Pass Pro Tip: GRIND. DON’T PAY.
Naturally, the premium path has all the bells and whistles. But to spend that 4350 currency to bypass levels? Insanity… Just complete the missions. And keep your expectations in check for those reward chests : I received more blues & greens than a Tyrell garden party. Epic drops seem scarce…
Spend? Maybe This One:
If you absolutely must spend, the pack that included 3,000 Golden Dragons and the extra Expedition worker was the most tolerable bargain. Again, however, you can manage in F2P with a lot of crafting grit.
