DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE Error – Issue Fix

PC Only

If you receive this message at any point when playing or attempting to launch Football Manager 2021 this will be due to an issue with your graphics card.

What we would first recommend is checking your system against Football Manager 2021’s minimum specifications. If your system meets these, we would recommend Uninstalling and Reinstalling your Graphics Card drivers.

MINIMUM:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

    • OS: Windows 7 (SP1), 8/8.1, 10 (Update 1903/May 2019 or later) – 64-bit

    • Processor: Intel Core 2 or AMD Athlon 64 – 1.8 GHz +

    • Memory: 4 GB RAM

    • Graphics: Intel GMA X4500, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT or AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 – 256MB VRAM

    • DirectX: Version 11

    • Storage: 7 GB available space

Please make sure to UNINSTALL your current graphics card drivers before installing your new ones.

Once you’ve tried the above, we would suggest running the game again.

For people with Intel GPUs

If you have an Intel processor which is low spec (for instance like an Intel Celeron/Pentium Nxxx series with below 2.2Ghz), your system is below minimum specifications. We’re investigating to see if we can get these weak machines to run the game. In the meantime if you try and launch the game with the following instructions, you may find it can run:

– Open Steam and access your Games Library

– Right-click on Football Manager 2021 -> Properties -> General -> Set Launch Options

– Type this in the box: –config very_low

– Click on OK, close the window and launch FM21 through Steam

If you still encounter an issue, make sure to create your OWN thread on our tech forums and post your DxDiag.

For people with NVIDIA GPUs

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you will also find a GPU dump file in your crash dumps folder called GPU_Info_[version].gpudump, please when you create your thread attach the file. You can find this file in the following location – C:\Users\Your Windows Username\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2021\crash dumps

We would also recommend if you’ve encountered this issue, being cautious about leaving the game up and running for a significant amount of time without interacting with it. Likewise, when putting your system into sleep or hibernation.

For all Laptop Users

We’ve found in some instances that the latest versions of GPU drivers from AMD/Nvidia and Intel can on some occasions cause this issue to occur. What we would recommend if you’re getting a DXGI issue frequently, is to uninstall both your AMD/Nvidia and Intel graphics card drivers and get the graphics card drivers listed on your manufacturers’ website.

So if you have a Dell laptop, whatever VGA drivers are listed on their website for your make and model. Likewise for all other makes (Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, etc).
