FIFA 23: How to Do a Chipped & Panenka Penalty
The Panenka is an ingenious, but simple, penalty kick technique where the taker chips the ball down the center of the goal. It was first executed by Antonin Panenka and rose to fame in 1976, when the Czechoslovakian star used it to outwit legendary German and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sepp Maier during the European Championship Final.
Choose your best penalty taker (shooting power is irrelevant). Hold L1/LB. Press the Circle/B button not to exceed 2 bars. If the opposing goalkeeper jumps into a corner, watch the ball slide smoothly into the goal.
Long story short: In FIFA 23, press L1 + O on PlayStation or LB + B on Xbox to execute a Panenka penalty.
You can add flair to your penalty kicks and troll your opponents from the penalty spot once you’ve mastered the skill of taking proper penalties. When powering up your shot for a chipped or Panenka penalty, hold L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox to attempt to dink the ball over the goalkeeper.
A proper Panenka will aim down the center of the goal, but a chipped penalty can be used to aim to the sides as well. Be wary! If your opponent guesses correctly, the goalkeeper will have to make some easy saves. Players with high penalty attribute ratings are also better at aiming, because their shot cursor will move more slowly.
We do not recommend using this technique if your player has low attributes on the penalty, because it is easily detected by the opposing goalkeeper and, as previously stated, aiming is critical to successfully perform this technique.
